Create the metafield definition

The metafield definition that stores multilingual tags is created automatically by the app. No manual work is required.

  1. Open the app’s home screen (Setup)
  2. On the “Multilingual tag metafield definition” item, press “Set up automatically”
  3. Confirm the badge changes to “Done”

Pressing “Set up automatically” applies all of the following at once.

Setting Value Why it matters
Metafield definition custom.multilang_tags (single line text, list) Where tags are stored
Storefront access Enabled Without this, Translate & Adapt cannot translate the values
Admin filtering Enabled Lets you filter the product list by tag
Pinned Enabled Puts a tag input directly on the product page in the admin
Config metafield custom.multilang_tags_config Lets the theme block work out where tags are stored

If a definition already exists, the app re-applies these settings every time. So if you created the definition by hand and forgot to enable storefront access, this action fixes it.

The definition appears under Settings > Custom data > Products in the Shopify admin. Open any product and you can add tags straight from the pinned field.

Only if you already store tags in another metafield, you can change the namespace and key under “Advanced” on the home screen. Run “Set up automatically” again afterwards.

If “It isn’t exposed to the storefront” persists, open Settings > Custom data > Products > Multilingual tags in the admin and enable storefront access manually.

If you see “already exists as another type”, a definition with a different type already uses that namespace and key. Metafield types can’t be changed after creation, so pick a different key under Advanced.
